Richard “Goose” Giesecke of 97X has been named the Quad City Mallards’ new public address announcer, it was announced this morning live on 97X’s Dwyer & Michaels Morning Show.

Giesecke is both 97X’s midday DJ and the producer of the Dwyer & Michaels Show. He takes over full time at the Mallards’ microphone after serving as the team’s backup P.A. announcer for better than a decade.

“I’ve been a huge hockey fan for a long time and I couldn’t be more honored that the Mallards asked me to be their P.A. announcer,” said Giesecke. “I’ve been fortunate enough to fill in in the past and that experience will help when it comes to handling all the duties that come with the job. It can be a whirlwind during the game but I have a blast every time I do it. I’m just excited for the season to start.”

Giesecke’s passion for the sport has taken him onto the ice and behind the bench: he has acted as an assistant coach for the Quad City Hockey Association’s Quad City Ice Eagles for the last eight years. A Quad Cities native, Giesecke began his career at 97X upon his return to the area after four years in the United States Army, during which he served in the 1991 Gulf War.

Giesecke will have his first chance to welcome fans to the iWireless Center as the Mallards’ new in-arena voice when the Flock opens its twenty-first season- and its fourth in the ECHL- on Friday, October 13 against the Toledo Walleye at the iWireless Center. Mallards 2017-18 season tickets are now available. Season ticket holders enjoy significant savings off the walk-up ticket price and receive a host of exclusive benefits.
