The Quad City Mallards have signed forwards Alex Globke and Brayden Low for the 2017-18 season, the Mallards announced today.

Globke, 23, scored five goals and added 12 assists for 17 points in 29 games as a rookie with the Toledo Walleye last season.

"Alex is extremely competitive, has a great mind for the game and will be a good character guy for us,” said Mallards coach Phil Axtell. “I expect him to pick up where he left off and have a solid start to his second year of pro hockey."

Globke turned professional last year after spending three seasons at Lake Superior State University. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound Waterford, Michigan native produced 21 goals, 28 assists and 49 points in 100 career collegiate games. He was named a Western Collegiate Hockey Association Scholar Athlete in both 2014-15 and 2015-16 and was also honored as Lake Superior State’s Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014-15. Globke was named to the 2013-14 WCHA All-Rookie team after he not only led the Lakers in points (31) but also finished first among all WCHA rookies in goals (12), assists (19) and points.

Before heading to LSSU, Globke played two seasons in the junior ranks with the Port Huron Fighting Falcons of the North American Hockey League and the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League. In 2011-12, he helped Port Huron to a division title and berth in the NAHL’s Roberston Cup national championship tournament.

Low, 23, is also approaching the start of his second season. Last year, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound product of Richmond, British Columbia scored three times and added four assists in 42 games with the Rapid City Rush.

“Brayden will add size and strength down the middle for us,” said Axtell. “I expect him to play a simple, honest and hard-nosed style of game.”

Low broke into pro hockey after one season at the University of Alberta, where he scored one goal and assisted on two others in 21 games in 2015-16. He skated in the major junior Western Hockey League for all or part of five seasons prior to joining the Golden Bears. Low served as an assistant captain while completing his junior career by scoring 16 goals and notching 16 assists for 32 points in 70 games with the Everett Silvertips in 2014-15. He played in Everett for three seasons after joining the Portland Winterhawks for brief stints in both 2010-11 and 2011-12. Low totaled 26 goals, 32 assists and 58 points in 187 career WHL games.
