Mike McMurtry and Darren Nowick provided a goal and an assist apiece and Patch Alber piled up four assists as the Kansas City Mavericks (8-6-0) broke open a tight game with four third period goals in four minutes, 40 seconds and went on to defeat the host Quad City Mallards (6-7-0) 5-1 Saturday night.

The Mavericks, who led 1-0 after two periods, saw their advantage double when Nowick started the third period onslaught at 6:09 with a power play goal from the right wing circle. One minute, 58 seconds later- at the 8:07 mark- Mark Cooper stretched the gap to 3-0 from the high slot. Just 62 seconds after Cooper struck, Hunter Smith scored from the slot. McMurtry capped of the Missouri goal rush from the doorstep at 10:49.

Brayden Low's power play tip-in got the Mallards on the scoreboard at 12:45 of the third but did nothing to affect the outcome.

The Mavericks had opened the scoring when Jordan Kwas roofed the puck from the side of the net at 11:29 of the second period.
