MALLARDS FALL 4-2

Alex Wideman and Robin Press provided a goal and an assist apiece and Etienne Marcoux made 32 saves as the host Indy Fuel (26-24-3) defeated the Quad City Mallards (19-30-4) 4-2 Friday night. 
 
Wideman and Press both struck in the first period. Wideman snapped the opening goal in from the slot at 4:21 of the first. The Fuel was on a two-man advantage when Press rifled home the second goal from the high slot at 8:16.
 
Just one minute, 14 seconds into the second period Jack Burton extended the Fuel lead to 3-0 with a drive from the left wing boards. Eric Hartzell replaced Mallard starting goaltender C.J. Motte in the wake of Burton's goal.
 
The Mallards were shorthanded when Alex Globke scored their first goal from the right wing circle at 8:06 of the second. Matt Iacopelli responded to reestablish the three-goal Indy lead by finishing off a 3-on-1 rush at 12:48.
 
Tristan King wristed a power play goal into the top corner from the right wing circle to cut the gap to 4-2 at 8:46 of the third period but the Mallards would get no closer.
 
Marcoux played a pivotal role in keeping Fuel on top by making making 29 saves over the final two periods.
 
The Mallards and Fuel meet again tomorrow night in Indianapolis. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during all Mallards Wednesday home games.
