Grant Arnold scored the only goal of the shootout after Josh MacDonald scored both Quad City Mallard regulation goals and C.J. Motte made 36 saves over 65 minutes and five more in the shootout to propel the Mallards (30-20-2) to a 3-2 shootout victory over the host Fort Wayne Komets (30-15-7) Wednesday night.

Arnold scored the game winner after a total of nine unsuccessful shooters preceded him in the shootout.

The Komets did earn one point after battling back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score. Brett Perlini cut the Mallard lead in half by burying Gabriel Desjardins' centering pass at 9:54 of the second period. Kyle Follmer's one-timer from the slot knotted the contest at two at 8:20 of the third period.

MacDonald's wrist shot from the left wing circle had opened the scoring with just one minute and six seconds left in the first period. MacDonald scored his second from the high slot at 2:06 of the second period.
