The Quad City Mallards and the iWireless Center have agreed to a one-year lease extension, the Mallards announced today.
“We are very excited to continue our partnership with the iWireless Center, which has been a hugely beneficial relationship for the Mallards organization. Executive director Scott Mullen and his staff have made the iWireless Center a tremendous home for the Mallards,” said Mallards owner Jordan Melville. “We look forward to continuing to work with them to deliver a successful team on the ice and affordable entertainment for the fans of the Quad Cities.”
The partnership between the Mallards and the iWireless Center has produced significant increases in attendance and revenue in the four and half years since Melville assumed ownership of the franchise. This year the Mallards have celebrated their twentieth season in the Quad Cities with their most successful on-ice campaign in more than a decade.
"The experience and commitment Jordan and team president Bob McNamara bring to the Mallards have made a huge difference for the team both on and off the ice,” said Mullen. “Their expertise and professionalism mean that after this milestone season we can look forward to even more exciting times to come for hockey in the Quad Cities."
The Mallards’ twentieth season is also the team’s third in the ECHL, the premier “AA” hockey league in North America. Melvillle’s QCM Holdings took over ownership of the club in October of 2012.
“We’ve been thrilled with the response we’ve received from the community over the past five seasons. The continuing support the Quad Cities area has shown for the Mallards over better than two decades is remarkable,” said McNamara. “Our goal remains to build on our successes and provide a winner for the Quad Cities.”
The Mallards, who during the regular season won 40 games for the first time since 2005-06 and totaled more points- 84- than they have since 2006-07, play the fourth game of their best-of-seven Central Division semifinal series against the Fort Wayne Komets on home ice tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. If a fifth game is necessary, it will be played Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at the iWireless Center. Should a sixth game be required, the series will shift back to Fort Wayne next Monday. If the series goes to a seventh game, the Komets would host the deciding contest next Wednesday.
Tickets to Mallards home playoff games are now on sale at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000. The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
