A.J. Jenks broke a 2-2 tie late in the second period and the Toledo Walleye went on to claim a season-opening 3-2 victory over the host Quad City Mallards Friday night.

Jenks put the Walleye on top for good with a wrist shot from the right point after the Mallards battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to even the score.

It was the Mallards' Sam Warning who had cut the gap to single goal from the doorstep at 16:50 of the first period. Tristan King's tip-in knotted the contest at 11:42 of the second period.

The Mallards found themselves in need of a revival after the Walleye scored twice in 29 seconds less than two and a half minutes into the game. Patrick McCarron scored the first goal of the night on a solo rush at 1:55 of the opening period. Connor Crisp doubled the Toledo advantage from close range at 2:24.

The Mallards return to action on home ice tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers. A fireworks display outside the TaxSlayer Center will follow tomorrow night's game. Tickets for tomorrow evening's contest and all Mallards' regular season home games are now on sale at the TaxSlayer Center box office, Ticketmaster toll free charge-by-phone (1-800-745-3000) and ticketmaster.com.
