J.T. Stenglein scored two goals and added an assist as the host Kalamazoo Wings (14-11-3) defeated the Quad City Mallards (8-19-3) 6-1 Sunday.
After an up-and-down start to the afternoon saw Stenglein open the scoring from the right wing circle just 59 seconds into the game and the Mallards' Sam Warning promptly race down the left wing to snap the equalizer into top corner one minute, five seconds later, the Wings would rip off five unanswered goals.
The Wings moved back in front for good when Tyler Heinonen swept the puck in from the left wing circle at 8:47 of the first period. Two minutes, eight seconds later, Sean O'Rourke stretched the Kalamazoo lead to 3-1 with a wrist shot from the slot.
The Wings struck for two more goals in the second period. Brendan Bradley buried an Eric Kattelus centering pass at 10:06 of the second. Stenglein scored Kalamazoo's fifth on a rebound at 13:17.
Jimmy Mullin capped of the Wings' victory from close range at 13:07 of the third period.
Also Sunday, defenseman Kenney Morrison was recalled from the Mallards by the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves.
The Mallards return to action on the road next Friday night against the Wichita Thunder. The Mallards next play at home Friday night, January 12 at 7:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel. January 12 also brings the return of $2 Dog/$2 Beer Night presented by 97X. Fans can enjoy $2 hot dogs and beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during every Friday home game. In addition, the Mallards have partnered with Metro to provide transit service between Augustana College and downtown Moline during all Friday home games. As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.
