Garrett Thompson scored the game winning goal with seven minutes, 19 seconds left in regulation as the Fort Wayne Komets (39-15-3) rallied from a 3-1 third period deficit to defeat the host Quad City Mallards (20-34-4) 4-3 Sunday.

Thompson broke in alone to snap a 3-3 deadlock with the Komets' third unanswered goal. Dennis Kravchenko had started the Fort Wayne comeback by reducing the Mallard lead to 3-2 from close range at 4:48 of the third. Two minutes, eight seconds later Gabriel Desjardins scored the equalizer from the doorstep.

The Mallards fell after twice building two-goal leads. The Mallards' Gergo Nagy scored the opening goal from the right wing boards at 2:31 of the first period. Just 56 seconds later Matt Pohlkamp finished off a 2-on-1 rush to give the Mallards a 2-0 cushion. The Komets' Bobby Shea cut the gap to 2-1 by rifling the puck home from the slot at 18:02 of the first.

The Mallards moved back in front by a pair when Jamie Tardif tipped the puck in at 10:38 of the second period but the Komets would roar back in the third.
