By: Mallards Communications Staff

The Quad City Mallards have re-signed forward Joe Perry and have also signed forward Evan Haney, the Mallards announced today.

Perry, 24, made his professional debut in the Central Hockey League President’s Cup playoffs after joining the Mallards in late March.  The 6’ 2”, 215-pound Nanaimo, British Columbia, native skated in the first two games of the Mallards’ opening round series against the Rapid City Rush before injury ended his season.

“Joe was impressive when he joined us in the playoffs.  He has good size and can score as well as play physical,” said Mallards coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski.  “Having that kind of right wing is a great advantage and we’re looking forward to having Joe with us for the full season.”

Just before arriving in the Quad Cites Perry led Division III powerhouse St. Norbert College to its third national title in his four years as a Green Knight.  He was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-American first team after finishing last season tied for first in the nation with 24 goals and totaling 37 points in 32 games.  Perry earned NCAA tournament Most Valuable Player honors after scoring five goals and adding two assists in three tournament games last spring.  He scored 50 times and recorded 106 points in 115 career collegiate games.

Haney, 24, scored three goals and added four assists in 22 games as a senior at Hamilton College last season before making his professional debut with the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals- for whom he played one game- last spring.

“Evan was an assistant captain as a sophomore and that doesn’t happen that often,” said Ruskowski.  “He’s a hard working checking forward who can be a leader on the ice for us and who’s very excited about playing for us.”

Over four collegiate seasons the 6’ 2”, 182-pound Haney produced 12 goals and 23 points in 86 career games.  After wearing the “A” as a sophomore, Haney went on to serve as the Continentals’ captain the next two seasons.  As a freshman in 2010-11, the Sainte-Marthe, Quebec native helped Hamilton to the New England Small College Athletic Conference regular season title.
