Kevin Baker and Joe Perry provided a goal and two assists apiece as the host Quad City Mallards (11-9-5) rolled to a 6-1 win over the Brampton Beast (8-13-1) Sunday.
The Mallards broke the game open with three rapid fire second period goals. After Jason Pitton converted a Brampton power play from the side of the net at 6:28 of the second to cut what had been a 2-0 Quad City lead to a single goal, the Mallards responded by scoring three times in three minutes and 48 seconds. Mike Monfredo's drive from from the right point put the Mallards back in front by a pair at 9:05. Perry rifled in the fourth Mallard goal from the right wing circle at the 12 minute mark of the middle frame. Just 53 seconds later Jeff Lee buried Pearce Eviston's centering pass to stretch the gap to 5-1 and chased Brampton starting goaltender Grant Rollheiser from the game.
Nick Grasso capped off the Mallard win at 1:53 of the third period by blasting the puck past Beast relief netminder Trevor Cann.
The Mallards never looked back after getting first period goals from Baker- who jammed in the opener at 14:54 of the first- and Eviston- who scored what proved to be the game winner from the slot at 16:58.
The Mallards are next in action tomorrow night on the road against the Missouri Mavericks. The Mallards next play at home Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. again against Brampton.
