Defenseman Guillaume Gelinas has been recalled by the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild from the ECHL’s Quad City Mallards, the Mallards announced today.

Gelinas, 22, is tied for seventh among ECHL defensemen in goals and has totaled 27 points in 43 games with the Mallards this season.  The 5’ 10”, 185-pound Quebec City native scored last night in the Mallards’ 6-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones and has now recorded seven points (three goals and four assists) in his last seven games.

Gelinas joins Iowa for the third time this season. He was also recalled by the Wild just before and just after Christmas and has played a total of three AHL games this year.

Gelinas scored two goals and picked up two assists in 37 games as a rookie with Iowa last season. He turned professional after enjoying a standout junior career. Gelinas scored 43 goals and pocketed 150 assists for 193 points in 275 games over five seasons with the Val d’Or Foreurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 2013-14 Gelinas won the Emile Bouchard Award as the league’s top defenseman. That campaign also saw Gelinas lead QMJHL defensemen in points (92), finish third overall in assists (69) and finish seventh overall in points while capping off his junior career by helping propel the Foreurs to the QMJHL President’s Cup title.
