Goaltender P.J. Musico has returned to the Quad City Mallards after being released from a professional tryout agreement by the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves while Jake Reed, who was signed by the Mallards as an emergency backup goaltender, has been released, the Mallards announced today.

Musico, 25, signed a P.T.O. with the Wolves Saturday and served as Chicago’s backup netminder in a 2-1 win over Milwaukee Saturday night. Musico has not played for the Mallards since being acquired in a trade with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits February 9. The rookie went 7-3-1 with a 2.35 goals against average, a .925 save percentage and one shutout in 13 games with the Swamp Rabbits this season.

Reed, 21, was in uniform for the Mallards 5-2 loss to Rapid City Saturday evening after earlier Saturday joining the team as an emergency backup for the second time this season.

The Mallards return to action on home ice Wednesday night against the Utah Grizzlies. All Mallards Wednesday night home games this season face off at the special early start time of 6:35 p.m.
