Goaltender Steve Michalek, who started this season with the Quad City Mallards, has been recalled by the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League under emergency conditions

Michalek, who was recalled from the Mallards by Iowa on February 4, has gone 6-2-0 in eight AHL games with a 2.13 goals against average and a .931 save percentage this season. The 22-year old rookie went 12-8-2 and posted a 2.42 goals against average, a .924 save percentage and two shutouts in 24 games with the Mallards.

Michalek turned professional this season after completing his college career at Harvard last year. The 6’ 2”, 196-pound Hartford, Connecticut native last season went 21-13-3 with a 2.28 goals against average, a .924 save percentage and three shutouts and set a school record by playing in each of Harvard’s 37 games while helping the Crimson to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship title and a berth in NCAA tournament. He was also a 2014-15 All-Ivy League Honorable Mention selection.

Over the course of his college career, Michalek went 33-28-13 while registering a 2.59 goals against average, a .914 save percentage and five shutouts in 79 games. He made the 2011-12 All-Ivy League Second Team after going 7-7-8 in 24 games and turning in a 3.19 goals against average and a .894 save percentage as a freshman.

Michalek was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round of the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft with the one hundred sixty-first overall choice. He spent part of the 2012-13 season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the junior United States Hockey League before returning to Harvard. Michalek went 7-6-3 with a 3.09 goals against average and a .900 save percentage in 17 USHL games.

Today's recall is Michalek's first NHL call-up. Minnesota hosts the Edmonton Oilers tonight.
